Call the Preppies In

Call the preppies in is a little throw back to something that we used to say where I grew up. It’s a deviation of Call the cows in since I grew up on a ranch in Midlo, TX, and yes that stands for “middle of nowhere”. Well, actually, that’s my BFF’s interpretation of my hometown. I have an amazing family, wonderful friends, and the most rewarding job in the world- I teach.

I Miss NYC

I want to go back VERY SOON. "B" and I talked about me flying the last week of Christmas vacation. That means we would get to spend New Years together in NY. How exciting! :) Too bad it doesn't work out for us to be there on our BDay's- mine is on the 22nd and his is on the 27th. We'll both be 31! Doesn't seem real!!! I'll be skiing in Colorado w/ girlfriends and he'll be on a Caribbean island w/ his fam.

We watched the both of these movies this weekend.

They were both really good! :) Jessica Simpson was adorable playing the role of a small town girl in the Big City. I have to say, that I could relate to several of the things she experienced in the flick. :) If you have not seen it - add it to your Netflix of Blockbuster Queue. I added it this summer while in NY and just now got it. Oh, well, better late than never.
Catherine Zeta- Jones was great working as a chef in a restaurant in Manhattan.
"B" and I had a great "retreat" together! :)

Go Mavs

The free tickets were much better than I was expecting. They were Platinum Level- face value $98..not too shabby.
Mavs played the Chicago Bulls in their first pre-season opener. They did lose, but it was still a ton of fun. :)

State Fair

My lil' bro getting his steer ready to show. He ended up placing 13th out of like 70 plus steers in his class. Only the top 10 in the class make the sale. Better luck next time. He did a really good job showing it. I always enjoy watching him :)

I got to take Baby Lola to the State Fair!! She is absolutely adorable- but a TON OF WORK. Gammi & I were pretty pooped after just a few hours! Best arm workout I've ever had!! No kidding! Go Moms..all you guys must have extremely toned arms. Mine were sore for days after carrying her around. It was all very worth it. I had a blast, so did she. She liked the pig's better than the Moo Moo's. Wish Mom could have joined. :(

I'm back...

In the swing of things....

Sorry to leave my fellow blog friends in the dark. Lot's has been going on and I've been dying to post. I'm feeling much better. Thanks for the sweet comments. :) I have a feeling this will be the first of several posts this weekend. I got out of school early today for Homecoming..i know , so sweet, right? Too bad and sad that the girls can not wear their mums to school. I know they're a huge distraction, but such a Texas thing.
So, after school today I went to get a car wash and was then southbound 35...Yep. I'm in Austin right now spending the weekend w/ an old friend.. We are having our own "little retreat". Kim- don't me mad at me plz!! :)
The trip down was very long and traffic was backed up for miles when i hit dwntwn traffic. I was just cruising along in the Beamer (that is no longer sick since I spent $1100 to get it fixed) and then what happens??!! Uh..huh. All of a sudden in rush hour traffic it completely dies and people start honking - so embarrassing- I was like PLZ God- I do not want to make Austin news right now. So, God heard me and my car started back up!! Thank goodness! We'll just say it was a "computer foul".

That's all for now...about to eat pot pie w/ "B" and catch up. :)

Oh..and BFF..I got your txt about the Tori B online 25% off sale. Just go ahead and pick out your bday gift. :) That's the VERY LEAST I CAN DO!!!!!!!!!!!!

TGIF

Thank goodness it's Friday and I get to go home and go to bed. I knew last night when I left my JL meeting I was getting sick. Bad thing is that since I'm sick the school nurse says no to my free flu shot. Darn it! Should have not put it off. I was planning on running in the Race for the Cure tomorrow morning, but something tells me that I won't make that big of a difference- they are expecting like 19,000 people! I still need to go get a mani/pedi for date tomorrow night w/ "E". We have charity event to go to. :)

Hope everyone has a great weekend and Go Tech- Beat A&M!!!!!!

It goes to show..

One person, one idea at a time can change the lives of many children.

I want to share this story with you about a bus driver in our district.
Pretty cool and inspirational. :)

Three years ago, (we'll just refer to him as "Mr. B") began a reading program on his bus. Students would read on the buses to and from school and he would give away a little prize (pencil/eraser, etc..) to the student who read the most each week. As the year progressed, several teachers began noticing that their students were improving in the area of reading. When the teachers asked their students about their progress, they told them that they were reading on the bus…

Now in year three of the program, the “Reading Riders” program has spread to seventeen of our district buses. The program was featured in the National Transportation Magazine this summer, our district started receiving phone calls from across the United States on how to get the program started. The program has received letters of congratulations from the Governor Rick Perry AND from the President of the United States, President Bush.

Amazing how one idea can go a long way :)

Wednesday Ramblings..

Where does the time go???
Seriously. It just amazes me how quickly time flies! I just now got home and my day started @ 5am this morning w/ my morning jog. Got to school to find that my ac was not working so I was pretty much stuck in a hot and humid classroom full of teenagers that were sweaty and stinky- Ewwwwwww!! It's days like today that make me wonder what in the world I am doing teaching 7th grade? Especially when they ask me things like - Miss..Did you not get a chance to flat iron your hair this morning? It looks different- I mean heavens for bid it be a little more poofier (sp?) than normal..oh and the rumor is that I take my fingers run them across my chalkboard and that's how I get my eyeshadow!! Ugh?? What in the world? I started dying laughing. Guess I've been applying the Bobbi Brown highlighter stick a little too heavily!! LOL :) We did get to talk about rumors bc I asked if anyone had actually seen me do that and they all said no. Exactly, which is why that would be a rumor! :)

Do you ever feel like you should get more done at the end of the day? I've been feeling this more than I ever have lately. Is it bc more is expected from us?? I blame it on technology.

I did win tickets to the Mavericks game today. Go me! I won 6 of them for next Tuesday night Mavs vs. Bulls at the AA Center- plan on taking the Fam. Wish me luck w/ that. I was the first to answer a trivial question correctly and respond via email- thanks to google I was able to find it quickly. :)

Just got home from tutoring a girl w/ her Trig- (we went over an hour bc she has a test tomorrow and was not even close to being ready for it), plan to watch the 3rd and final debate (hoping that they will actually go back and forth w/ issues that I need to know answers to), make scrapbook page for JL directory, call friend "C" back that I have been putting off, and then go to bed to wake up and start all over again tomorrow.

Finally, I have some very exciting news to share hopefully by Monday! I'm thinking about traveling Europe this summer for 30 days w/ a friend..more details to come.

Hope everyone has a Terrific Thursday tomorrow :)

BOO!

I was Boo'ed today!

I received this precious little Halloween treat in my mailbox at school today full of candy and nuts. I wanted to share it bc it's a great way to get into the Trick-or-Treat spirit and it's work friendly. :) You could just copy the saying and start passing "BOO" along.
Have fun. :)

This treat is for you,
We hope you enjoy,
The idea is simple,
One we hope you employ.
You pass "BOO" along to 3 other neighbors,
Along with any kind of Halloween favors.
If we all do our part,
And spread the good cheer,
By Halloween night it will be very clear.
We're a friendly bunch,
We like to share fun
So please do your part
And keep "BOO" on the run!

I might try to find the time to make these tonight for my 3 neighbors.

Ingredients
Makes about 15
12 ounces white chocolate chips
1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Lollipop sticks
Mini chocolate chips
Directions
Line a baking sheet with waxed paper; set aside.
Melt white chocolate in a heat-proof bowl over simmering water; stir occasionally. Remove bowl; mix in oil. Drop 1 tablespoon of mixture onto prepared baking sheet. Use the back of a teaspoon to quickly spread into a ghost. Place a lollipop stick at the base, spinning to coat. Add chocolate chip eyes. Refrigerate ghosts 5 minutes, then peel off.

Or...these- Nutter Butter Ghost Cookies

Ingredients
12 ounces of white candy coating, white chocolate or vanilla bark
(I use Candiquik vanilla flavored candy coating)

1 package of nutter butter peanut butter cookies

1 small package of miniature M&M's
(I usually buy a regular size package and set the extras out in a candy dish.)

Preparations
Be prepared for this one. Everything happens pretty fast or the bark will harden before you are done.

Set out either a sheet of waxed paper or cooking parchment paper on the table.

Melt the bark according to the instructions on the package.

Dip the nutter butter cookies into the melted bark until the cookies are completely white.

Lay the dipped cookie on the paper.

Get two mini M&M's (I use two of the same color but you don't have to) and put them on one end of the cookie for eyes before the outer shell hardens.
This works best if you have someone to help. One can dip and the other can do the eyes.

Let the candy covered cookies harden.

Remove from paper and put into a bowl or arrange on a plate. Cover tightly until ready to serve.

1. I keep all my future wedding plans- addresses, guest list, dress ideas, pics, favors, hotels, etc tucked inside a notebook and keep it under my bed. I love to read magazines in bed at night, so if I find something that I like I can just hop down from my bed and tuck it away. :)

2. I could eat Cheetos and drink Vodka everyday for the rest of my life and be completely happy.

3. During my work week first thing I do when I wake is up run to the kitchen to get my bowl of Cheerios and diet coke. Then I run back and crawl in bed, get back under covers and watch news. Oh..and I also like to make peanut butter and graham crackers houses on my plate while double dipping in the PB jar.

4. I don't feel a day over 20. I know I should but I don't.

5. I keep a journal in my purse and write down things that made me happy or sad that day. No, not my therapists idea- it was mine. Plus, I only get like 10Min's w/ him anyway!
