Call the Preppies In

Call the preppies in is a little throw back to something that we used to say where I grew up. It’s a deviation of Call the cows in since I grew up on a ranch in Midlo, TX, and yes that stands for “middle of nowhere”. Well, actually, that’s my BFF’s interpretation of my hometown. I have an amazing family, wonderful friends, and the most rewarding job in the world- I teach.

Is Elisabeth Looking for a New 'View'?

posted by brenda - Mon, Sep 29, 2008, 2:05 pm PDT

"The View's" Elisabeth Hasselbeck is reportedly "really upset" about the recent political discussions (i.e. the upcoming presidential election) that have been taking place on her daytime gab fest. As the lone Republican on the talk panel -- not to mention the youngest -- she just can't seem to win against her loud, liberal counterparts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg.

While tensions are high on set, a "View" staff member told the Chicago Sun-Times that things aren't as bad as they were during the Rosie O'Donnell era. Still, it's bad enough that Barbara Walters has set up a "cooling off" meeting for her ladies.

Rumor has it that Elisabeth may even be leaving "The View" to host her own program on the FOX News Channel, where she can be with her own "kind" ... and not have to face off with Joy and Whoopi on a daily basis! That sort of makes me sad. Although I think Hasselbeck often comes across as being out of touch, uninformed, and immature, I must admit that the outspoken 31-year-old makes for some good television!

Christmas In Cowtown

Gosh, this seems early, but it's already time for the JL of Fort Worth to host their Annual Christmas in Cowtown.
Anyone going?

The Junior League of Fort Worth, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Proceeds from Christmas in Cowtown support the Junior League of Fort Worth in its work to fulfill this mission through funding of vital projects and thousands of volunteer hours.

Visit the Junior League booth on Vixen Lane during Christmas in Cowtown to purchase your very own commemorative Christopher Radko glass boot ornament. It is a great collector's item and will only be available at Christmas in Cowtown while supplies last. Be one of the first to purchase the ornament by attending Cocktails in Cowtown, Wednesday, October 1!

Thanks to my friend "K" for reminding me! :)

Oh NO...

House defeats $700B financial markets bailout

By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS, Associated Press Writer
1 minute ago

WASHINGTON - The House on Monday defeated a $700 billion emergency rescue package, ignoring urgent pleas from President Bush and bipartisan congressional leaders to quickly bail out the staggering financial industry.

Stocks plummeting on Wall Street even before the 228-205 vote to reject the bill was announced on the House floor.

When the critical vote was tallied, too few members of the House were willing to support the unpopular measure with elections just five weeks away. Ample no votes came from both the Democratic and Republican sides of the aisle.

Bush and a host of leading congressional figures had implored the lawmakers to pass the legislation despite howls of protest from their constituents back home.

The Beamer is Sick :(

Yep. Really, Really sick. It gets fixed on Tuesday. Needs new brakes and new motor for the window.

I thought about trading it in for this.
Very tempting since BMW is offering 1.9% financing.

Or this..

but I think it's too much car for me right now. Love that it rides on 20s and it's chromed out. Great price!! The employee discount and rebate is approx. $12,000 off sticker price. I've drove both, but financial advisor says no to both..Darn it!! Guess I'll just have to wait 'til I have 2 incomes not just one. Seems like I find more and more things that I am advised "to wait on"...ughhh!!!

Dallas' Annual Fair

State Fair Time!!

I absolutely Love this time of the year! Nothing beats the smell of fried foods, the greasiest corny dogs, huge funnel cakes and cold beer. Not to mention the smell of the cattle barn and heat all mixed together. I plan to take off on Thursday to watch my little brother show his steer. Wish him luck!! He's a Junior in HS, so he only has this year and next to win the big prize $$$,$$$..and then he's off to Red Raider Land.

Think he looks like a purple ribbon winner?????

Sunday- Funday Finds

As I was out and about today I picked up a few items for myself. Since the Starbucks around the corner from my school closed as a result of the economy crisis I've been able to set aside a little extra cash the past couple of weeks. I was spending $3.48 on my latte and now my coffee from Mc Donald's is .51 cents..Can you believe that?? The girl that takes my order rings it us as a Senior citizen discount so it's half price..not too shabby, huh?
Here are the things that I purchased. Thank you BFF for giving me the heads up on the sale @ Banana. Every item in the store is 30% off. Plus, I had an in store coupon.

I thought this would be really cute to wear to my JL meetings, since I have them 2x a week. I plan to wear my Tori B's w/ them now since it's still 90 degrees here in Texas, but can wear tall black boots w/ it in the Winter.

Wish this came in Grape as well, but blue will do for now :)

and lastly, has anyone used this product? It was displayed in Nordstroms and I recently read about it in my Shape mag. I plan to try it out tonight..guess we'll see. It has 100% satisfaction guarantee policy or your money back, so if I'm not completely happy I can always return.

Quotes for today

The greater your capacity to love, the greater your capacity to feel the pain.
Jennifer Aniston

Really try to follow what it is that you want to do and what your heart is telling you to do.
Jennifer Aniston

The both of these say exactly what I can't.......which is why I felt the need to post instead.

Vampy on the toes..

It's sooooo unlike me, to pick a PURPLE polish to go on my toes, but it's a ton of fun!! Every time I've looked at 'em today I've giggled..hehe ;) I really needed to get out of the house yesterday even if we were in the midst of a hurricane. I had baked almost 6 dozen chocolate cookies, watched a movie on Lifetime, and was set up for my own Gossip Girl marathon when my friend "K" calls and asks me to meet up for a mani/pedi. We stopped to grab a bottle of Merlot and had ourselves our own lil' date...tons of fun

Confirmation Sponser

I have exciting news! Today I was asked to serve as a sponsor for my friend's daughter that will be starting her Catholicism Confirmation Classes soon. "R" is such an amazing young lady. I shared the story of what I remembered as I received the Sacrament with her Mom today. I still have the little statue of the girl praying on her knees. awww..:)I've never been on this side of it before, so I'm a little nervous! If anyone has any suggestions, tips, or ideas that they would like to share that would be great. I do have the gift taken care of. I have an extra rosary that I had blessed by the Pope when I was in Rome back in December.
This is her...

Gift makes more sense now..

I actually met the Mom during Open House a few weeks ago and we chit-chatted for awhile after parents had left.
She just turned 30 herself, a single Mom, has a 7th grader, and teaches HS..
Can you believe that??!! Now that's commendable!!
I'm not much of a book reader, but I might give it a try.
I have this on my nightstand right now..

R..O..U..T..I..N..E..

I'm back in it. Just completed my first 2 weeks back at school...Geez, I am completely exhausted. My classes are full to the max. I have a ton of little darlins' with raging hormones, attitude, and innocence. I have 'em trained pretty well w/ our daily routine. I like the confirmation from one student that decided to diagnosis me as OCD..LOL!! Kids like structure and NEED it so desperately to be successful. :)
I'm not liking my structured personal life so much right now. "B" and I are not hanging out as much. I got an email from one of my favorite boutiques in New York telling me about their Ted Baker Fall Collection Sale and it makes me so sad to not be there. I could be there if I wanted to. "B" actually has offered to fly me there the past few weekends, but I have turned down the offer..I want and need more than him to wine and dine me...:(
It's so hard to stay focused!!!
Okay..enough about that...
So,I went to my first provisional JL meeting last night- pretty interesting, then had dinner with new friend "E". Meeting up with friends tonight, JL stuff tomorrow, and hope my bros have their shotguns loaded bc I've really been craving some dove.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.. :)
