Call the Preppies In

Call the preppies in is a little throw back to something that we used to say where I grew up. It’s a deviation of Call the cows in since I grew up on a ranch in Midlo, TX, and yes that stands for “middle of nowhere”. Well, actually, that’s my BFF’s interpretation of my hometown. I have an amazing family, wonderful friends, and the most rewarding job in the world- I teach.

JL

Looking over my provisional requirements and I still have a cultural event, city council meeting, school board meeting, placement interview, and Glass slipper Project to check off!!

Geez!!!! I LUV League, but looking back I cannot believe how much time, money, and work goes into your provisional year.

All of the above must be completed by April 17th. YIKES!!

I am seriously thinking about putting in a transfer in August for Junior League Dallas just b/c it would be so much closer to me. Currently, I have about a 45 minute commute one way, and have minimum 2 meetings a week.

Only hesitation I have is leaving the friendships behind @ JLA. I am not sure what I will do. Still have time to decide.

League really has been an amazing experience and will be something I am a part of wherever I go. What a wonderful group of professional, friendly women all coming together to serve the community! :)

Hope everyone has a fantastic Thursday. I'm a little pooped from the concert Tuesday night. Britney was AMAZING!!!! 4th row tickets- even better. I would love to be able to dance like her!!! She really knows how to shake her "busy body!!" LOL

Fab Lilly Finds!

Something about my Mom that I LOVE is that she knows how to raise my spirits! She came over today and we had dinner at Breadwinners and then were off to see what fabulous finds were at Marshall's.
I can not believe what we found!!
Hello Lilly!!

It makes me want to take another trip on the East Coast this summer.
Check out the prices! Unbelievable! If you live in Dallas you should go tomorrow- (Marshall's- Preston Center) They had several skirts left and 3 different style sandals. As you can see my Mom bought me the frog sandals and the skirt has giraffes on it.
It definitely lifted my spirits today and I might just leave it laid out on my chair bc it makes me think lighthouses, beaches & lobster rolls.

Sunday Funday :-)

My day so far... went to church, doing chores, and want to take advantage of the Kate Spade coupon I ran across thanks to

Friday Nights

I love Friday nights! I think it's the sense of accomplishment feeling that I crave. I'm getting things ready for our first Math TAKS tutoring program in the morning @ 8am. It will last 4 hours. Not really sure how this is going to go over, but we'll soon find out. Thought I might take Krispy Kremes to the kiddos.
I'm watching Friday Night Lights right now. I've heard a ton of great talk about it, but to me it's waaaaayyy to depressing. I think the same about Brothers and Sisters.

Anyway,

Went to the Stars game last night with friend H. It was a great game, but the Stars did lose in OT.

Here are a few pics..

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm praying that my building doesn't blow over. It's soooo windy outside right now and being on the 20th floor is making me a little nervous- I'm not sure if we're actually swaying or it's just in my head! LOL!
I did bring the plant inside earlier before the crazy weather hit . :)

Tuesday Ramblings..

Whew...
I could have really used another week off. Sleeping in, Soap opears, and Sunshine!!!Where did Spring Break go??!!!

On that note, where does the time go in general?

TAKS test is approx 30 days away and it's crunch time! All my math packets are made and we are having a crash course on all 6 objectives.
I do love my job, but forget how stressful it is during this time of the year. Every question counts!!

So, today i took the beamer into the shop b/c my AC stop working. When I picked it up from the dealership ..$120 later, they told me that I have rats in the hood of my car!!!
Ewwwww!!!
What in the world??!!! I live in the city and park in a covered parking garage, but somehow those little guys have nestled in and have chewed my electrical wiring and fuses!! The fuses and chords were able to be replaced..luckily they had not made their way to any big ones yet.
I was told to set traps in my hood and this should help.
The dealership acted like it happens quite frequently..
So random & so gross i know!!

Back to watching the presidential news conference- or at least trying to make sense of the decisions that are being made...he's covered a wide range of topics tonight that's for sure.

Target Find

I can't believe this is shown as a dress- it's waaaaaayy to short for me. I got a small and plan to wear it with dark skinny jeans. I tried it on and it hits at good places- no need to wear a tank- even better. Great price too.
It's really cute!!!!!!!!!!

Rambling..

I dropped off "B" at the airport this morning @ 5AM so he would have one less cab ride in his day.
It was so shocking to see how many people were hopping on a plane to go to work! Wow!! I commend those of you that can keep up with that lifestyle...i know I could not, i don't think. When I 'm having to deal with security lines in an airport I know I'm arriving at my destination to be there on vacation- not work.

Just felt the need to bring attention to this since it was somewhat bothersome to me this morning. I really wish "B" could be staffed locally and not have to travel every week.
Maybe someday.

This will be my wedding song someday......

Random Pics..

Sunday Funday

So, "B" and I had a GREAT TIME today trying out 2 new recipes- they were both deeelicious! One of my favorite things in the world is Spinach artichoke dip. I like the fake from the store, the kind from Chili's and some of the best I've ever had is from Houston's until we found this recipe! It's very fresh and not loaded up with mayo like most.
"B" found this recipe online and modified it a little, like he always does- Here is the link to the recipe..
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emeril-lagasse/artichoke-and-spinach-dip-recipe/index.html

We also made Shepard's Pie. We tried to go light on the potatoes , so it was not as creamy and potatoey (if that's a word) that we've had in the past, but still was very tasty.

To top it off we had banana pudding for dessert! What a great way to start my Spring Break- good food!!! :)
"B" is not on Spring Break :(- he's wondering why, not??!!!! He will be on a jet plane to DC @ 5AM in the morning...so sad :(

Brrrrrrrrrrr...

Yesterday, I had on my cute lil' orange sandals with denim skirt and multi-colored spring scarf ( that I just got from Anthropologie- it's really cute, tried to find pic to post but no luck) and was warm with somewhat of a tan( yes, I gave in and got a tanning membership a few weeks ago). I look forward to the 10-15 min nap, not to mention how wonderful the heat feels on my body. I am always cold!

Today, I wore turtle neck, wool pants, and heavy coat. I'm wrapped up in my snuggie right now and at the moment very toasty! :)

I have my formal evaluation tomorrow and need to be preparing for that , but instead i'm finding anything and everything else to do, so that I can put it off a little longer!! UGH!!
Oh well...

Looking forward to Friday- start of Spring Break!! Yey!!!! I plan to hang................

Hope everyone has a Terrific Thursday! :)

Time To GO BIG...

Ok..So, I am the only girl in Uptown I think that does not own a BIG GOLD CHUNKY WATCH right now! Seriously, I 'm feeling very left out..I see them everywhere..and they are adorable. I saw a ton of them while I spent last summer in NY and thought about getting one then, but didn't..they say Bid D is a year behind and guess that stands to be true! :) LOL.

It's the Michael Kohrs one that seem to be the most popular..

I plan to shop around over Spring Break...only 3 days away..thank goodness.

The battery in my Tag is out, so even more reason to splurge and go trendy right now. Btw...i have only replaced my battery once and I've had the watch almost 10 years- Tags are good stuff!

My Bro

My brother has been on my mind lately- I felt the need to post a pic of the two of us. I Love you Jordan! Not likely that he reads my blog considering that he does not even txt... i know, it's hard to imagine, but he's just who he is!!!

TAKS...

Is a beating! Seriously, to stay that quiet for that long is crazy! Writing test was today and Math is about 29 days away. We teach 183 days (or close to that) all year for the state to look at the results of 1 of them. No cell phones went off, so that was a good thing! I actually had my kiddos take their batteries out just to make sure we were safe.

Highlights for today-nominated for Teacher of the Year (that was a big surprise!), got a sweet card in the mail from my BFF :), Mom got me an adorable Easter doormat to put on display, made Racheal Rays Chili Mac for dinner- turned out wonderful as always, watching American Idol now, and that pretty much wraps up my day. :)

Dreaming of warm weather....I'm so tired of the cold!

No Longer...

Yes!!!
Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have missed the Blog world tremendously and thanks to all of you who have emailed me to try to keep in touch since you guys were suddenly "locked out."

I had no choice but to go private immediately after one of my students saw that I had a blog. Yep!! So scary...but considering the attention span and interest of a 7th grader does not exceed past a few days or so i think it's pretty safe to say that it's time to enter back into the blog world.

Gosh...it seems so much longer than it has really been since I posted last. My last post was the day I was going to vote. That day was also the day that I went temporarily private. I have never been one to voice personal political comments but I want to say that I felt very alone and abandoned as I watched the numbers on the map that night. The math minded person that I am quickly spotted that the numbers on the maps were not adding up in my favor.

N**E**Way- enough about that.

Pretty busy weekend planned w/ JL Holiday Magic Show, wedding, and college football.

Go Texas Tech!!!!!! LUV those Boys :)

Don't forget to vote for Heisman Award- #5 or #6 of course!!

Just got caught up with grading and now I'm off to VOTE.

I Miss NYC

I want to go back VERY SOON. "B" and I talked about me flying the last week of Christmas vacation. That means we would get to spend New Years together in NY. How exciting! :) Too bad it doesn't work out for us to be there on our BDay's- mine is on the 22nd and his is on the 27th. We'll both be 31! Doesn't seem real!!! I'll be skiing in Colorado w/ girlfriends and he'll be on a Caribbean island w/ his fam.

We watched the both of these movies this weekend.

They were both really good! :) Jessica Simpson was adorable playing the role of a small town girl in the Big City. I have to say, that I could relate to several of the things she experienced in the flick. :) If you have not seen it - add it to your Netflix of Blockbuster Queue. I added it this summer while in NY and just now got it. Oh, well, better late than never.
Catherine Zeta- Jones was great working as a chef in a restaurant in Manhattan.
"B" and I had a great "retreat" together! :)

The free tickets were much better than I was expecting. They were Platinum Level- face value $98..not too shabby.
Mavs played the Chicago Bulls in their first pre-season opener. They did lose, but it was still a ton of fun. :)

State Fair

My lil' bro getting his steer ready to show. He ended up placing 13th out of like 70 plus steers in his class. Only the top 10 in the class make the sale. Better luck next time. He did a really good job showing it. I always enjoy watching him :)

I got to take Baby Lola to the State Fair!! She is absolutely adorable- but a TON OF WORK. Gammi & I were pretty pooped after just a few hours! Best arm workout I've ever had!! No kidding! Go Moms..all you guys must have extremely toned arms. Mine were sore for days after carrying her around. It was all very worth it. I had a blast, so did she. She liked the pig's better than the Moo Moo's. Wish Mom could have joined. :(

I'm back...

In the swing of things....

Sorry to leave my fellow blog friends in the dark. Lot's has been going on and I've been dying to post. I'm feeling much better. Thanks for the sweet comments. :) I have a feeling this will be the first of several posts this weekend. I got out of school early today for Homecoming..i know , so sweet, right? Too bad and sad that the girls can not wear their mums to school. I know they're a huge distraction, but such a Texas thing.
So, after school today I went to get a car wash and was then southbound 35...Yep. I'm in Austin right now spending the weekend w/ an old friend.. We are having our own "little retreat". Kim- don't me mad at me plz!! :)
The trip down was very long and traffic was backed up for miles when i hit dwntwn traffic. I was just cruising along in the Beamer (that is no longer sick since I spent $1100 to get it fixed) and then what happens??!! Uh..huh. All of a sudden in rush hour traffic it completely dies and people start honking - so embarrassing- I was like PLZ God- I do not want to make Austin news right now. So, God heard me and my car started back up!! Thank goodness! We'll just say it was a "computer foul".

That's all for now...about to eat pot pie w/ "B" and catch up. :)

Oh..and BFF..I got your txt about the Tori B online 25% off sale. Just go ahead and pick out your bday gift. :) That's the VERY LEAST I CAN DO!!!!!!!!!!!!

TGIF

Thank goodness it's Friday and I get to go home and go to bed. I knew last night when I left my JL meeting I was getting sick. Bad thing is that since I'm sick the school nurse says no to my free flu shot. Darn it! Should have not put it off. I was planning on running in the Race for the Cure tomorrow morning, but something tells me that I won't make that big of a difference- they are expecting like 19,000 people! I still need to go get a mani/pedi for date tomorrow night w/ "E". We have charity event to go to. :)

Hope everyone has a great weekend and Go Tech- Beat A&M!!!!!!

It goes to show..

One person, one idea at a time can change the lives of many children.

I want to share this story with you about a bus driver in our district.
Pretty cool and inspirational. :)

Three years ago, (we'll just refer to him as "Mr. B") began a reading program on his bus. Students would read on the buses to and from school and he would give away a little prize (pencil/eraser, etc..) to the student who read the most each week. As the year progressed, several teachers began noticing that their students were improving in the area of reading. When the teachers asked their students about their progress, they told them that they were reading on the bus…

Now in year three of the program, the “Reading Riders” program has spread to seventeen of our district buses. The program was featured in the National Transportation Magazine this summer, our district started receiving phone calls from across the United States on how to get the program started. The program has received letters of congratulations from the Governor Rick Perry AND from the President of the United States, President Bush.

Amazing how one idea can go a long way :)
