Call the Preppies In

Call the preppies in is a little throw back to something that we used to say where I grew up. It’s a deviation of Call the cows in since I grew up on a ranch in Midlo, TX, and yes that stands for “middle of nowhere”. Well, actually, that’s my BFF’s interpretation of my hometown. I have an amazing family, wonderful friends, and the most rewarding job in the world- I teach.

Silent Killers...

Salina patent-leather ballet flats
was $138.00 select colors $110.50 item 95898
High-gloss shine—a goes-everywhere (with everything) flat in the most incredible colors. Italian patent leather upper with heavy stitching. Man-made lining and sole. Made in Italy. OMG!!!!!!! These were incredibly uncomfortable today. I bought these at Jcrew last night bc I thought they would be a perfect flat to teach in..boy was I wrong! Does anyone own these? Should I look into getting them stretched? My Tori B's do the exact same thing and that's why I have to end up wearing them as flip-flops. I know you're probably thinking that I just have chubby feet or something, but I don't. I really don't feel like it's a size issue, possibly just the way the shoe is made in general. I bought the 7 1/2 bc the 8 was huge when I tried it on.

Junior League Retreat

This was today and let me tell you it was a ton of fun!! I'm so glad that my BFF got me to do this. I am in a provisional class of about 32. It did remind me a bit of rush, so I guess it's going to be somewhat like a grown-up sorority. I am looking forward to getting started. I signed up to be on the committee that works with women within the community that dropped out of high school and can not read. What a wonderful opportunity that will be for us.

Ready or not...

I will greet about 125 7th graders on Monday morning!! :) I love my job! This will be my 8th year to teach! That just blows my mind. Even though I am completely overwhelmed with getting back into the swing of things and getting ready for school to start back up..i can't wait for Monday. Last week during in service it was announced that I will serve as lead teacher for the Math department, so that should be exciting. I adore all my teachers and have 2 new ones on board with us this year , so i'm looking forward to that.

Rap it is..

The mystery of Michael Phelps' iPod playlist
By Chris Chase
In the long, storied history of Fourth-Place Medal's Investigative Unit (founded: Monday), one question has been asked by our readers more than any other. Today, on our five-day anniversary, we will attempt to tackle the biggest Olympic mystery of the Beijing Games: what is Michael Phelps listening to on his iPod?

In nearly every camera shot of Michael Phelps on dry land, he can be seen with iPod headphones dangling from his ears. The earbuds are a ubiquitous presence in the ready room and on the starting block; they're just as much a part of Phelps' 'uniform' as goggles and a swim cap. About two minutes prior to the start of a race, Phelps sheds the iPod along with his warm-ups. So, what is he listening to?

Podcasts of NPR's This American Life and Dylan live at The Supper Club. No wait, that's my iPod. Phelps listens to hip-hop music on his. He says it helps motivate him before a race.

While his pre-race tracklist varies, Phelps has said that "I'm Me" by Lil' Wayne has been on his playlist in Beijing. The track, off Weezy's EP "The Leak" features the line:

Yes I am the best/and no I ain't positive I'm definite/I know the game like I'm reffing it
That's about the only lyric that's printable on a family blog.

Other artists that populate Phelps' iPod include: Jay-Z, Young Jeezy, Eminem and Outkast. (What, no 'Pac?) Occasionally, he'll throw some techno into the mix, but usually keeps things rap-centric. Phelps doesn't speak much about the specific songs he's listening to, but he did tell NBC in 2004 that Eminem's "'Til I Collapse" was on his most-played list at Athens. In 2005, he created a playlist for the website Rhapsody that included the songs "Roses" by Outkast, "Burn" by Usher, "Overnight Celebrity" by Twista and "Smile" by G-Unit.

What do you carry your lunch in?

With back to school approaching WAY too quickly, I was thinking I need a new lunch bag. I have been carrying the same black one (from Container Store) with hot pink monogram, for 4 years. I need a new one. All my girlfriends carried this one which they all bought at the Container Store.

I was thinking I would pick powder blue thread since I have carried one with pink thread all these years. Change is good :)
I want something I can reuse each day and that can be monogrammed. Don't want to get my lunch mixed up with the kids'. If you have any suggestions please send them my way. :)

Sent Plain and Clear

I know it's said that God sends signs and answers us in ALL DIFFERENT WAYS and I have to share something that happened today.
The past few months of my life I have been praying, talking, studying, seeking advice and whatever else you can think about over these 3 things- 1.)should I start a 2nd life-term insurance policy through my Alumni Association..what the heck it's only like $11 a month..(that would be just like cutting back 2 trips to Starbucks), 2.) Should I take advantage of the housing market?? Take the plunge and buy now or wait for it to get worse??, 3.) My internal clock is ticking- should I stay with the guy that I am with now until he makes up his mind if I am the one? or make up my mind to try out other options?
oh, and let me mention that say that 80% percent of your married life happiness depends on your partners!! huh?? how is that fair.
ANYWAY..HERE IS WHERE I AM GOING WITH THIS...
I went to the mail box today, grabbed the mail, and was pissed because the mailman had stuck everything inside my new Oprah magazine. When I went to grab the things inside is when I noticed the article that was titled something like ...We have everything figured out for you..it was like 15 life questions. The above 3 questions that I mentioned were right there in front of me with answers. Now, not that I will follow them completely or anything, but it was so touching.
I always ask him to please send me signs and I will try to remain patient in the mean time..
He sent his sign today..and it was wonderful!!

Few great Back To School items...

With In Service a week away, I can't help but to start thinking about Back To School Shopping. I adore this time of the year. Today, I was going to try and make it to the Junior League Backpack give aways, but decided to stay in and watch a little bit of the Olympics and I got to catch up w/ my BFF, so that was nice. Glad to hear that she is enjoying her new country estate in Virginia.

"Friends With Money" 2006

"I was reading this recommendation that Blockbuster gave me today and I thought you might have had something to do with it. Maybe you aren't that skilled at hacking into my account yet and I am giving you too much credit. Anyway this was the description and the movie." emailed from "B"

"Friends With Money" 2006
"A single woman envies the security of her married friends, while they in turn dream of her freedom in this comedy drama. Olivia (Jennifer Aniston) is a single woman in her mid-thirties who feels she's reached a crossroads in her life. Unhappy with her career as a teacher, Olivia quits and takes a job as a maid until she sorts out her feelings. However, Olivia feels as if she could use some support, both personal and financial, from her best friends, all of whom at very least have more in the bank than she does. But that's not to say they don't have problems of their own. Christine (Catherine Keener) and her husband Patrick (Jason Isaacs) are screenwriters who have discovered that collaborating is more stress than they can deal with. Jane (Frances McDormand) is married to Aaron (Simon McBurney); they work together as designers, but while their professional relationship is cordial, they've become numb to one another as lovers and friends. And Franny (Joan
Cusack) and Matt (Greg Germann) are a couple who comfortably support themselves and their children thanks to an inherited fortune; while their material needs are met, emotionally they can barely handle marriage and parenthood. Friends With Money was written and directed by Nicole Holofcener, who previously made the acclaimed independent features Walking and Talking and Lovely & Amazing. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide"

Anyone seen it?
